Last year, when we sold our home we sold most of the furniture to our buyer. So, when we moved into this house there was barely a place to sit, let alone decorate. As a result, this is my first round of dressing up our empty-nester home up north for the holidays.
This is also a part-time home house for us so in the interest of storage space and making the decorating process simpler, I have had to rethink our Christmas decorations and come up with easier and less time-consuming ways to decorate for the holiday season.
Our old home was quite large and I loved pulling out all the stops at Christmas but this home is MUCH smaller which meant I had to do some major Christmas editing and bring just a few of my favorite pieces with us.
A lot of the ornaments from those more formal front rooms are very special to me. I enjoy seeing them from one year to the next. Some of the ornaments had belonged to my mom and dad so I wanted to incorporate them in this house too.
I had sold or donated all of our trees before we moved and I didn't want to buy another tree and then have to find a place to store it the other eleven months of the year. Plus, some years we are only up north for a few short weeks. I didn't want to spend those precious few days decorating and then taking it all down and putting it away again.
Pieces of our past are what make a house a home and
this Sticks Company sculpture was another favorite that I knew I wanted to have in our new home too.
He looked great in our coral walled family room...
maybe a little less perfect here but with a little greenery and some mini lights, I think he is still quite charming.
Some of the quirky finds from over the years along with the simpler flair that just whispers Christmas came along with us too.
The only thing I bought this year? This greenery ball from Hobby Lobby. I'm thinking it was less than six dollars.
The 2015 me would never believe that 2020 me would be spending less than ten dollars on Christmas decorations!
Is it the pandemic or am I really that old?
And only in a pandemic year would you think to decorate the hand-sanitizer...
and prominently place it in the kitchen along with this felt board.
